On a nice sunny night, but a bit chilly, 13 “athletes” set
off on the first of the 2026 summer NiteNavs from Gribdale,
some set off to checkpoint 1 and some set off to checkpoint
8, which is good to see as it’s then not a procession. All
is calm for about an hour then first back is David A with a
head wound, (just under the hour), taking risks by cutting
corners and crashing through the woods to C/P 8. After that
it was a steady stream of runners and walkers arriving back
at the finish having done different routes and tales of
fighting with undergrowth and showing off blood spattered
legs. Some strange routes taken but that’s the beauty of a
NiteNav, sometimes the short route isn’t necessarily the
quickest. The visit to the pub was probably the most
complicated part of the night, with the idea to go to the
Buck but the roadworks had everyone confused and finally we
ended up in the Royal Oak. Well done to all and many thanks
to all who turned out, Mark. |
